SPECIAL EVENTS
Den Gamle Krigsskolen
(The Old Military Academy)
Tuesday, February 24
The Special Events Committee has the pleasure of inviting Forum members to a
guided tour of the Old Military Academy.
The building was originally built in the 1630s. But after extensive changes it was
considered a new building from 1760. It had several owners before it was given
by Bernt Anker to the Military Academy in 1802.
9The commander in chief of the Norwegian armed forces, Hans Jacob Arnold
Jensen, sent a request to the king of Denmark-Norway in 1750 to establish a
school of mathematics in Christiania. This was the first institution offering
higher education in Norway, but, despite its current name, the school did not
offer any extensive military education.
After a reorganisation in 1804, the Academy became an officer school, an
independent unit with its own command, called the War Academy. In 1969, it
was moved to Camp Linderud, where it is now located.
The building has recently been restored, and rooms can now be rented for
meetings and social functions. The rooms are all beautifully decorated and with
much history reflected in its walls.
