DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL EVENTS \nDen Gamle Krigsskolen \n(The Old Military Academy) \nTuesday\, February 24 \nThe Special Events Committee has the pleasure of inviting Forum members to a \nguided tour of the Old Military Academy. \nThe building was originally built in the 1630s. But after extensive changes it was \nconsidered a new building from 1760. It had several owners before it was given \nby Bernt Anker to the Military Academy in 1802. \n9The commander in chief of the Norwegian armed forces\, Hans Jacob Arnold \nJensen\, sent a request to the king of Denmark-Norway in 1750 to establish a \nschool of mathematics in Christiania. This was the first institution offering \nhigher education in Norway\, but\, despite its current name\, the school did not \noffer any extensive military education. \nAfter a reorganisation in 1804\, the Academy became an officer school\, an \nindependent unit with its own command\, called the War Academy. In 1969\, it \nwas moved to Camp Linderud\, where it is now located. \nThe building has recently been restored\, and rooms can now be rented for \nmeetings and social functions.
