Linken Apall-Olsen from Oslo City Museum
‘Modernism in Oslo, a New Lifestyle in a Green City’
Monday, October 6
Linken Apall-Olsen from the Oslo City Museum (Bymuseet) will explain how the city of Oslo has evolved in the last century or so. Ms. Apall-Olsen will start with a short introduction to the city’s history from medieval times up to World War I.
The early 20th century changed our way of living. New values regarding political power, gender and health gradually spread through society. The new ideals were part of an international movement that grew out of the industrialisation of European countries during the 18th and 19th centuries. Who contributed to the powerful movement, and what did they bring to the fore? And, more important, how did new discoveries and societal changes impact on ordinary people’s lives, and how did they change the city’s landscape and the mindset of the inhabitants?
Ms. Apall-Olsen is a senior curator and art historian at the Oslo City Museum. She specifically works to promote knowledge about the city through guided tours, city walks and lectures about the history and culture of the capital for both young and old. She is known for her engaging style and enthusiasm.
