Mark Rothko: Paintings On Paper
August 22
Mark Rothko’s luminous paintings revitalised abstract art and made him one of the most important artists of the last century. With nearly 80 works, the exhibition at the National Museum is the first major presentation of Rothko’s work in the Nordic region.

Rothko’s paintings on paper are critical to understanding his artistic evolution. They reveal his process, his exploration of colour and form, and his ability to convey profound emotion and spirituality through minimalist compositions. These works also show the breadth of his creativity, extending beyond the monumental canvases for which he is most famous.
