‘The Best of Kistefos’
and
American Artists Christina Quarles and Kathleen Ryan Thursday, June 12
The Art Committee invites you to the Kistefos Museum in Jevnaker for a guided tour of the ‘Best of Kistefos’. After lunch, you may visit The Twist, containing an exhibition of Christina Quarles, and/or the Wood Pulp Mill and Nybruket Gallery, where works by Kathleen Ryan are exhibited. There is, of course, also the ever-expanding sculpture park. Christina Quarles (born 1985) is a queer, mixed contemporary American artist and writer living and working in Los Angeles, whose gestural, abstract paintings confront themes of racial and sexual identity, gender, and queerness. Kathleen Ryan, an American sculptor, juxtaposes the synthetic and the organic, the mass-produced and the handcrafted, and imbues each component with symbolic and cultural meaning. This exhibition has been warmly recommended to us, but not as a guided tour, as it covers two buildings.
