The Forum Singers choir is sad to announce that it is closing down. Our present conductor Eva Landro has been offered a position with the professional Edvard Grieg choir in Bergen, starting May 2020. The choir feels that now the time is right to “call it a day”.
A little bit about the choir: The first Forum choir was started by Margaret Wold, one of the “founding mothers” of International Forum. However, it ceased to exist after a number of years and in 1998 there was no choir. Jean Brøvig, Forum member, started recruiting members for a new choir, and in the autumn of 1998 the present choir was formed. Our first conductor was Tove Alice Rossow, Forum member and professional pianist, singer and teacher at Barrat Due Institute of Music. We have many wonderful memories of choir and concerts with Tove Alice, who later became a treasured soprano in our choir. The years have passed, and choir members and conductors have come and gone. We have been, on average, about 28 ladies of various nationalities in the choir. Our concerts have had varied repertoires; folk songs, pop, jazz, musicals, classic, etc., in different languages. We have put on concerts twice a year, at Christmas and in the Spring, always with refreshments and a social gathering afterwards. The choir has given its members a lot of pleasure, and our audiences have always seemed to enjoy the concerts. Thank you for coming!
