SUMMARY:Visit to the Farm of the Royal Estate at Bygdøy
DESCRIPTION:The Special Events Committee is pleased to invite our members on a tour of the farm at the Royal Estate at Bygdøy. As we walk around the farm\, our guide Mari Bjørnsrud Gabrielsen will tell us about its history and daily operation. \nSince medieval times\, the estate has mainly been a royal residence\, but it was also a monastic estate owned by the Cistercians at Hovedøya. In modern times\, the farm has been both a public park and a test farm specializing in organic husbandry and milk production. It also provides information about modern agricultural techniques and cultural and natural history. \nThere are horses\, sheep\, pigs\, hens\, cows and rabbits in the visitors’ centre. The Bygdøy Royal Estate operates a pony riding school for children. \nThe barn houses 60 dairy cows. The organic milk produced is delivered to the dairy cooperative TINE.
