SUMMARY:May Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:‘Should We Trust AI? \nSome challenges\, hopes and ideas to assess the trustworthiness of AI.’ \nDr. Lind’s answer to the question in the title is ‘Yes\, but…’ First\, he will argue that\, because AI is focusing primarily on high performance\, it is not only dangerous but also useless. Second\, he will explain some ongoing activities in AI research in order to address different aspects of trustworthiness involved in AI. And finally\, he will discuss the so-called alignment problem of AI from a humanistic perspective\, according to which AI – made by humans – should be developed to serve current human societies. \nDr. P. G. Lind is working with AI and data science applied to physical\, biological\, social\, economic and energy systems. Since 2019\, he has been a Professor of Scientific Computing at the Oslo Metropolitan University\, and in 2025 he became a Professor of Applied Sciences at Kristiania University. He has also been at the University of Osnabrück as Privat Dozent and at the University of Oldenburg as a researcher. He holds a PhD in Mathematical-Physics and a Habilitation in theoretical physics. He has authored and co-authored more than 140 publications\, held more than 300 talks and seminars\, and participated in numerous international conferences around the world. \nHis scientific achievements intersect the topics of data modelling and data analysis\, with development of open-source numerical routines and applications to fields such as geophysics\, renewable energies and quantum computing. Besides that – and perhaps also related to it – he also enjoys art-related activities\, such as listening to\, practicing and composing music! \nDATE/TIME:       Monday\, May 5 at 17:45 (meeting time 18:00) \nPLACE:               Majorstuen Seniorarena\, Slemdalsveien 3a\, 0369 OSLO \nSIGN UP:             To Gunnel Anita Solheim by email before April 28. \nPRICE:                NOK 105.- Please sign up before you pay.
