Sun, sea, salt and tender loving care make award-winning Croatian olive oils among the best in the world, and they are known as the ‘Liquid Mediterranean Gold’. One tradition that makes Croatian oils so special is the fact that the olives are ‘bathed’ in the sea. Gourmet chefs seek this oil, but production is limited, making them expensive and even more sought after. As with wine, these oils vary in taste from year to year, depending on the amount of sunshine, temperature, wind and rain.
For almost 2,000 years, olives have been the symbol of Croatia’s Istria region. Its geographical location, soil composition and microclimate made it ideal for growing olives, much to the delight of ancient Greeks and Romans – who knew a thing or two about Living the Good Life! The owner of the online gourmet store Marqt.no, Ms Katarina Poljak, will present award-winning Croatian olive oils for tasting at this Diplomatic Salon.
