Bjørn Skogmo served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1969 to 2012. He was a personal assistant to the foreign minister in the 1970s, twice attached to the policy planning department of the MFA, senior advisor and ambassador at the Prime Minister’s Office from 1989 to 1992, and assistant secretary-general for development in the MFA from 2002 to 2005. He has served in Ankara and with Norway’s Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, and was the Permanent Representative of Norway to the UN in Geneva from 1994 to 2000. From 2005-2008 he was Norway’s ambassador to Paris. He has written two books: UNIFIL, Peacekeeping in Lebanon (1978-88) and The vision of a better organized world society, achievements and counterforces, as well as many articles on multilateral issues.
